The Nire Valley Walking Festival based in the heart of the Comeragh Mountains, Waterford, Ireland.

Nire Valley and Tracks & Trails.

Nire Pano

Enjoyed the Comeragh Mountains episode of Track & Trails, 12th March 2015, well! come and visit us in the Nire Valley.

When tired legs and a heavy load on your back bring a smile to your face, you know you are in somewhere special. And that somewhere is the Nire Valley, Co. Waterford. After a day with your guide and historian, the sight of your guest accommodation bathed in a warm glow with the promise of good food, a warm shower/soak in a bath is a pleasure that both calms the soul and fills the body with pride at what you have achieved. This is not the only simple pleasure you will have experienced today. The Walk fest 2014 Tooreenwonderful and simple pleasure of a packed lunch at 2,000ft after walking all morning borders the exotic, it is amazing how fresh oxygen drenched air can make these sandwiches taste supreme! Imagine how the smoked salmon and brown bread tastes, it's a five star experience. It doesn't stop there, the local knowledge of the guides bring the Nire Valley to life with stories, insight and local lore of the Valley.

Of course scaling the heights is not for everyone. We have some very interesting and excellent historic lower level walks, forest rambles and just quiet country road walks.

We have walking trails in the Comeragh Mountains as well as open mountain for those who like to self navigate.

The walk featured on the program was a section of the Coumduala loop where Pól Ó Conghaile and local Michael Desmond walked from the carpark to Coumduala and back to the carpark.

If you want more information you can email us at thenirevalley@gmail.com.

We run two walking festivals every year, in March the Comeragh Bogtrot, which is for the more experienced and our Autumn walking festival in October which offers a wide selections of walks for all grades of walker. We also have some other events planned.

May 16th Foraging in the Nire Valley.

In a modern world we have lost the connection between our food and its natural world. There are so many wild foods growing Pignutall around us with a variety of flavours and textures and May is one of the best months to find some really interesting wild foods, the jewel in the crown being Pignuts. Pignuts are unlike any other wild food as they do not surrender easily and the quest for them is as exciting as the eating of them, we have organised two foraging days in the Nire Valley in May, Saturday 16th, but places are limited so book now. The charge for the day is €10.00 per person. To book and more information email us at thenirevalley@gmail.com.

We also have a great range of accommodation available in the area, from award winning guesthouses, self-catering and hostel accommodation.
